The Hidden Kingdom Pilgrimage takes you on a journey into the wildest Himalayas, to the borders of Tibet, and a land that exists outside of time.
This pilgrimage has proven to be deeply transformative for everyone that I've guided here, as well as myself, igniting a sense of wonder, that makes everything else, all the complications of life, fade into the background.
Only stillness, and divine, exists here.
Our journey commences from the lower part of Mustang, Nepal's "wild west" and home of Tibetan Buddhism, and extends west in the direction of Mount Kailash. The home of Lord Shiva.
Each step serves as a reminder of Shiva, with every village dedicated to a specific yogi or monk. In this land, everyone is connected to nature and the gods.
These villages carry yogic tales, some were protected by monks, while others were settled by them. As monks or yogis journeyed, their followers trailed behind, settling where the yogi decided to take his Samādhi.
Samādhi is a highly advanced and non-dualistic state of meditation in Hinduism, Buddhism, and yogic schools. It can be described as a state of oneness with the object of meditation, complete absorption. The Buddha described it as complete lack of scattered mind.
It is the final limb of attainment in the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the Buddhist Eightfold Path, and many other spiritual traditions. In Yogic Hinduism, it is a step before Moksha, or spiritual liberation from the cycles of rebirth.
Complete freedom.
Many yogis and monks have come to this land to achieve Samādhi, as the environment allows the mind to settle and become still, and while we will likely be a long way away from attaining Samādhi, this journey will encourage profound change, and show you the power of a peaceful mind.
Our destination for this pilgrimage lies in the hidden kingdom of Upper Mustang so it requires a special permit to enter this region.
If you desire to explore the ancient sites of eastern religions, experience the mind-opening landscape and culture of the upper Himalayas, and access a tranquil state of mind that brings clarity, acceptance and growth, then this pilgrimage is for you.
Seeking places to meditate and enter Samādhi, the locals transformed these spots into places of worship, marked by stupas or chortens. We will follow the trail of these spiritual hotspots, through villages and vast valleys, to find ourselves.
Along the way, I will lead you through daily yoga and meditation practices, and tell you the stories of this ancient land and the yogis who inspired me to come here many years ago. I hope they will find a place in your heart too.
We will need at least ten days to do this pilgrimage, but I have also taken serious practitioners for a month of sadhana (spiritual practice). Pilgrimages are highly personal and I tailor them to the pilgrim (you!).
