The Mystery of Kalimath

Not many people have even heard of Kalimath, let alone visited there, but it happens to be one of my favourite places in India for its seriously strong spiritual energy, mysterious trekking routes and happy, positive vibes.

Where is Kalimath?

Kalimath is situated in Rudraprayag, in the north of Uttarakhand on part of the Chardham Yatra pilgrimage tour, though most people don’t stop here, preferring to go straight to the popular locations of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Its altitude is 6,000ft and it has a population of just 500 people – Kalimath is a tiny village that has a big effect on people who visit – if you know what to look for!

What’s in Kalimath?

If you look online, it would seem there’s not much in Kalimath either! There’s an ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Kali and the holy river Saraswati flowing around the village, plus trekking routes around to more mysterious Himalayan locations.

However, if you’ve never visited before, it would seem like there’s not much reason to visit this tiny village in the middle of nowhere – but with a bit of inside info, Kalimath becomes a beautiful mystery waiting to unfold!

Shakti energy

Kalimath is the only place in India where Goddess Kali is worshipped alongside the other goddesses Laxmi and Saraswati, so there’s a strong shakti energy present, you can feel it in the welcoming mood of the locals and the light-hearted, playful vibe that strikes everyone when we arrive, while most people leave having had profound mystical experiences.

Himalayan meditation

Some of the paths around Kalimath lead to mysterious locations deep in the mystical Himalayas. Epic views and profoundly spiritual meditation spots are just some of the things you can discover around this tiny village. You’ll need a guide to show you the route as some paths are not easy, but once you arrive, you’ll feel a stillness that can’t be found elsewhere.

When I first visited some of these places, I had extreme meditation results, including getting over a lifelong fear of heights, connecting with the energy of Goddess Kali and quitting smoking. Others have seen improvements in their social anxiety, break-up blues and depression – the energies here are seriously that powerful!

We regularly take pilgrims to experience the magic of Kalimath and the sacred Himalayas of the Kedarnath region, so let us know if this is something you’d be interested in experiencing!
